Wedding Time!

Dan and I collaborated on a seating table assignment board for our niece's wedding on November 4.  She and her (now) husband married on a beautiful fall day in a beautiful setting with a Tennessee mansion for background.  Their reception was in a beautiful barn near a small lake and our two boys were with us, so it was a fun family weekend.  We had so much fun meeting new family and seeing our side of the new and expanded family!  Thank you Anthony and Samantha!

Dan and I designed the board and easel stand, then made a trip to Lowe's to buy the boards and stain. After staining, we put it together.  Here is Dan screwing each board to the easel for stability.  We left it in the barn when we left, so I hope that the venue can make some use of it!

This is what it looked like with the hand-made tags attached.  Each tag was washed with white gesso, thinned, then a couple of colors of Distress Ink were applied to the right side of the tag and they were then spritzed with water, to give them an antique look.  I made a template out of plain old cardboard to use to make sure I had the lines and spacing straight for hand-lettering the guests' names.  I wish I knew how to do real lettering; this was done just in my normal handwriting (when I'm trying to do a neat job).

The fun part was the die cut weeds and flowers on the left side.  These were die cut from manila tags just like these, but they were first stained with Distress Ink or Distress Oxides, sprayed with water and left to dry.  Then they were all die cut into a bunch of different flowers/weeds in different colors before being arranged and glued directly to the left side of the tag.  Some of the tags had some weeds stamped behind the die-cuts, but most did not.  No two were alike.

Small wooden clothespins held the tags to the twine that was tacked into the boards on the backside.

This is a good shot of the die-cuts.

The board after the florist attached some greenery.
